Embolden Media Group—Our Approach to Artificial Intelligence

At Embolden Media Group, we represent human-authored work. We believe the most compelling, publishable writing comes from an author’s singular voice, lived experience, and creative intelligence—and that conviction shapes how we evaluate every submission and represent every client.

What This Means for Your Submission

AI tools may be used for the following:

  • Brainstorming

  • Outlining

  • Research

  • Organizing ideas

  • Light proofreading (grammar, punctuation, and spelling)

For your proposal narrative—the sections describing your book’s concept, audience, marketing plan, and so on—we extend some flexibility. If AI helped you articulate or structure these sections, that’s generally workable, as long as the ideas and substance are yours.

For your writing sample and manuscript, the standard is nonnegotiable: the writing must be yours, from first draft through final. Not AI-written-then-edited. Not AI-expanded-from-your-notes. Yours.

Here’s why we draw the line where we do: your writing sample is how we—and ultimately, publishers—hear your voice. It’s the most important indicator of whether your book can be sold and whether readers will connect with it. If the proposal narrative reads as obviously AI-generated, it can raise questions about the authenticity of everything else in your submission—including your sample. So even where some AI assistance is workable, we encourage you to keep your own voice present throughout. The more consistent your voice is across your materials, the stronger your submission will be.

Why This Matters

Beyond our own conviction about authorship, there are real legal and contractual stakes. AI-generated text is not copyrightable, and most publishing contracts require an author’s warranty that the manuscript is their original work. If AI-generated content is identified in a manuscript, it may be subject to legal review, required removal, or could affect copyright registration and ownership. We want to help you avoid that risk from the very beginning of our work together.

Disclosure

If you’ve used AI in developing your submission materials—for research, outlining, or organizing—we simply ask that you let us know. This isn’t about calling anyone out. It’s about our being able to represent your work honestly to publishers and to help you navigate any publisher-specific AI guidelines, which are becoming more common across the industry.

Our Commitment to You

We are not interested in submissions—or manuscripts—that could have been written by anyone. We’re here because we want to cultivate, amplify, and advocate for your unique voice, your story, and your way of seeing the world. That’s what we want to help get into the hands and hearts of those who need them most.
