Embolden Media Group Announces Industry Affiliate Associate Partnership with ECPA

On January 24, 2020, Embolden Media Group was named an industry affiliate associate for ECPA—Evangelical Christian Publishers Association—”the association of Christian publishers, who work together to strengthen and lead the industry through connection, education, and resources. ECPA programs provide tools and opportunities for networking, collaboration, professional development, business solutions, market intelligence, and discoverability.”

ECPA industry affiliate associates are related businesses that serve the Christian publishing industry. And Embolden Media Group is a boutique publishing consulting firm that provides publishers and authors quality content development and publishing services that help them reach growing, diverse, and global audiences.

After speaking on “Amplifying Diverse Voices: Exploring a New Paradigm for Successfully Publishing Christian Authors of Color”at ECPA’s Publisher’s University (PubU) in 2019, Jevon had some important conversations about diversity with ECPA president, Stan Jantz, and Sheri Toomb, ECPA’s marketing manager. These conversations led to a commitment between the two organizations to work together over the next 12 months to help address factors that contribute to the lack of diversity in Christian publishing. As a consultant to ECPA, Jevon will be using her sixteen-plus years of experience as a Christian publishing professional of color and working with numerous authors of color to inform and support ECPA in its efforts to bridge the gap between Christian publishers and authors and publishing professionals of color.

Diversity is God’s idea and Christian publishing is far behind God’s ideal. It’s past time to catch up.

As Embolden Media Group serves ECPA in this capacity, we also hope that this partnership will lead to further partnerships between us and other publishers who desire to review their current hiring and author acquisitions practices to revise and update them as needed in an effort to further promote greater representation of people of color on their publishing lists and within their teams.

Ways we can help:

  • Acquisitions support - reviewing current acquisitions processes and pinpointing opportunities for increased diversity, identifying respected and emerging voices of color, providing actionable ideas for improving marketing and sales opportunities for authors of color

  • Concept/content development - conceptualizing book concepts that speak to audiences of color, providing voice-sensitive editorial support for messages by authors of color, sensitivity reading authors’ works that are written from a perspective outside of the author’s own lived experience, titling and book cover design review

  • Network connection - recommending or advising toward hiring or contracting well-qualified candidates of color to fill key positions within your organization

  • And more
